Guild Wars Store: Saftey
Howdy, i wish to buy an item from the Guild Wars store, however i am not the one with the credit card, and i need proof, (in writing, or being able to actually see the icon) for a secure connection.
If anyone could find a link or find a way to prove its a safe connection, or tell me another way to buy the 1 Million edition bonus item keys, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks alot! ~End Of Ze World |

Your Browser and security settings should tell you all you need to know. Additionally, you need to have an account in order to log into the online store and this requires a password and login name, etc.

the only way someone could steal your credit card info would be to hack the GW sever. its a connection between your computer and Anet, no one is going to take anything from you. its good to be a little cautious with that info, but something like this from a legitimate company will always be secure.

I haven't ever heard of anyone having problems when buying from the online store - caution is always good though I guess...

I brought that upgrade pack by credit card as well, so was my GF. If anything gone wrong you can always claim whatever lost back form your credit provider but only if you paid by credit card, no such luck for switch card.
Anyway it's highly unlikely that anything will go wrong. |

Guys, he knows that the store is ( probably) safe and everything, he just needs either to be able to buy it tru browser so he can see its secure connection, or have it somewhere on the Anet site or NCSoft that says how it is secured.

Some things are implicit.
It already requires the company's software to even log into the online store using a password protected system. That's implied security provided directly by the company. Additionally, credit card transactions have been certified and authorized by the card companies. Also, look closely at the screen where you enter the credit card information. It's like asking the question: "If I walk into Macy's Department Store and shop for clothes, will a drug crazed, prior convicted felon that just happens to be a Macy's employee shoot me and steal my money?" Well, it could happen, but if it did the blame would be fairly easy to place. |

I understand, you may need to "Ask a Question" via Guild Wars Support, to get anything in writing.
Credit Cards have built in fraud protections as well, and even if the worst somehow happened, your Dad would only be required to pay no more than 50 dollars of any contested charge. Perhaps, just talk your Dad into getting you something like a Visa Gift Card. It acts just like a credit card but only has a fixed amount on it and can't be used for anymore than what you place on it. |

An easy solution to your problem is not having to use your dad's card at all. There are pre-paid Visas that you can buy at places like CVS and use as a regular credit card. Not sure if Visa is the only one or not, but whatev.
Being able to buy from the online store was one of the first things I thought about when I saw the commercial for them. |

I would say your best bet is going to be some kind of pre-paid card.
You could probably get some kind of security documentation from Anet, but it may take you more time and hasle then what it is worth for such a small purchase. |

Anyone know to what this (quoted from Arenanet) applies?

Even though that's all been fixed since, that won't help make your dad feel more secure about the transaction now will it? So here's a thought. Have you tried to right click on the store browser and see the properties? If you can see the protocol in the properties, you can see if it's https (secure SSL connection) or just http. I have no doubt personally that it's https. For more information: http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/definitions/ssl.html PS (EDIT)... ANET security information isn't going to help you. The ingame store connects directly to NCSoft, and your transaction is with NCSoft. You have to have a master account with NCSoft to even use the ingame store. http://eu.plaync.com/eu/ Last edited by lakatz; Mar 29, 2007 at 08:46 PM // 20:46.. |
